"By developing an appreciation for energy efficiency at an early age, children are able to make smart energy choices and encourage their parents to do the same.” Energy Secretary Abraham

The Energy Hog campaign is aimed at the energy efficiency improvements executable at the scale of the individual homeowner. The educational component targets children through the "Hog Buster Training Cam"p, emphasizing that each citizen has a personal responsibility to increase energy efficiency in everyday life.  For adults, promoting cost savings are the primary advantages of living a more energy-efficient lifestyle, including providing information for energy-related tax credits.

Commentary

Tom Friedman

"Personal commitments alone, though, will not solve scale problems like the one we face around clean energy and climate. Whatever personal commitments you, your kids, or your neighbors make, we as a society must translate them into national and international commitments, by institutionalizing them in laws, regulations, and treaties. That is the only way to achieve scale. And that leads to my other answer: It is much more important to change your leaders than your lightbulbs." Hot, Flat, and Crowded, 458
